About
Mazzy MacGregor (b. 2000) is a Palestinian American multidisciplinary artist, musician, and writer based in Los Angeles, CA. He holds a BA from the USC Roski School of Art & Design (2022).
MacGregor’s practice bridges massive, fractured figurative oil paintings, dense gestural abstractions, and monumental mixed-media works driven by emulsion and printmaking techniques. Across his expansive canvases, archival images and human forms are subjected to an aggressive physical degradation—scarred by frantic graphite markings, layered with atmospheric color fields, and buried beneath heavy applications of charcoal, ink, and oil stick. By anchoring these dense compositions with the debris of commercial advertising alongside media-documented realities of institutional violence, rubble, and geopolitical devastation, his work directly confronts the profound desensitization of the modern gaze and the inherent sterility of contemporary society.
The work deliberately destabilizes the painted surface to channel a sense of rapid reflection and visual cacophony. This physical and conceptual friction is deeply tethered to MacGregor’s parallel outputs as a writer and musician, which dictate the rhythmic pacing, narrative tension, and structural weight across his entire visual output. A prolific creator, MacGregor has produced an active body of over one hundred works within the last four years, held in private regional collections throughout Southern California.
